About POGO

The Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans, POGO, was established in 1999 as a forum for directors and leaders of major oceanographic institutions around the world to promote global oceanography, particularly the implementation of an international and integrated global ocean observing system.

POGO includes institutions performing ocean observations as well as representatives of existing international and regional programs and organizations. POGO is a partnership of institutions involved in oceanographic observations, scientific research, operational services, education and training.

Dr. Tony Haymet, director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, serves on the Executive Committee, helping lead the international efforts aimed at creating more comprehensive and effective research efforts for global ocean observation. He strives with his colleagues to increase capacity building in developing countries, to promote ocean education opportunities around the globe, and to develop and implement visiting professor training programs.

POGO members meet annually at host institutions throughout the world.
